The “Liberal Arts” department

This department was established in 1996 and originally it contained 6 teachers. Now it has 11 and there is 1 DPhil, 4 associate professors, candidates of science..

30 academic subjects are taught here: history of Ukraine, philosophy, logic, culturology, ethics, aesthetics, essentials of job safety, principles of personal and social safety, business Ukrainian, sociology, foreign languages etc. This section of liberal arts is an integral component of economic and legal education. Because you know, a good specialist – it is a person who knows his own professional sphere good and expertly operate with general ideas, is able to express one`s thoughts, can speak one or few foreign languages that widen the perspectives of one`s professional advancement and successful carrier, is knowledgeable in the philosophical and sociocultural aspects of the field he works in. The department of liberal arts teaches these disciplines in this section. The chairman is the candidate of educational science, the associate professor N. M. Venig.

The scientific activity is in the hammering of the common scientific theme of the whole institute that develops in two main directions: linguistic and social-and-historical. The collaborators of the department always take part in different conferences, workshops, congresses of different levels, so this department is famous for its scientific potential both, locally and in other cities.

The areas of scientific activity:

·        the constant renewal of the work programme of all educational disciplines that are lectured for the purpose of their meeting the requirements of education in high school pertaining to the humanities;

·        the educational and methodological support of the department;

·        the sufficient library basis forming: textbooks and tutorials;

·        the department's support with different tutorial and other educational and methodological textbooks published by teachers of this department;

·        the method workshops holding;

·        the practice of teachers` open lessons and visiting them by other teachers.

In this era of globalization, the liberal education became not only the main term of person's comprehensive development, creative potential improvement and the means of realization of this potential, but also the important factor of the socio-economic progress of the society, its spiritual and industrial spheres, social stability, increasing of economic health, personal competitiveness in market economy environment.

The main tasks of the department:

·        to organically combine curriculum`s requirements stated in the documents of the international organizations, concerning human rights and freedoms with the provisions of the state documents, that determine the main point of the liberal policy of Ukraine at the present stage;

·        to supply the transition from the “closed” monoideological methodology of teaching to the modern one;

·        to put into practice such main principles of liberal education as solidity, systemacy, unity of logics and history, nationality and universality, public and personality, theoretics and practice, training and education;

·        to familiarize the student with the stored world cultural knowledge about the human society, the place and the social purpose, to familiarize with the essence of culture as the man's world;

·        to adopt the principle of pluralism in scientific approaches and methods that is intended for the main way of clarification of the truth and for education system;

·        to coordinate study with the task of the liberal training of the students;

·        to train students to have high humanistic qualities: humanity, respect, human dignity, communication habits and civilized coexistence;

·        to build up the intellectual expert, the personality and the bearer of new ideas as for national identity renaissance.

The aim of the department of liberal arts is youth's social and professional establishment, its intellectual and spiritual development. The aim of the teaching staff is to educate the future graduating students to have high cultural interpersonal communication standards, to cultivate respect for spiritual heritage of representatives of all nations in students. The creation of conditions, so that youth could choose its world-view positions, is combined with the formation of awareness of the interconnection between ideas of freedom, human rights and civil responsibility.

The disciplines that are lectured here will obligatory favour not only the student`s intellectual enrichment and personality growth, but also without fail, the formation and the improvement of the future expert's skills in legal and economic education. Focusing on the classical traditions of the European and Ukrainian education and actively assimilating the productive novations of the home and foreign educational systems, the department actively implements those courses of humanist training that will help the graduates to confidently orientate themselves in the world culturological space, to form the mental and ethical norms of social and business relationships, and enterprise by themselves. For example, it is hard to imagine the expert without basic knowledge of “Culturology” that depicts the development of artistic and creative schools of all times and nations.

As the question about self-determination of the Ukrainian nation is always topical, so is the significance of the state language for the national consciousness and culture's formation, the fundamental courses “The modern Ukrainian language” and “Ukrainian professional language” keep them topical. These courses are the basis of all subjects and in fact they serve for the whole complex of the professional training in the educational institution. The main auxiliary means for the study of speech for document communication is the “Business correspondence” course that is lectured for future economists.

The classical university disciplines are the indispensable features of the high quality. It is Philosophy that is intended exactly for the formation of world-view position. The new science is represented – sociology that helps to adequately orient oneself in this booming socio-political life.

It is impossible to do without basic knowledge of some directions of young psychological science – the psychology of management and conflictology – while organization of production or forming the staff. These disciplines have been classical for foreign education in the domain of management for a long time, and recently they took their place in the syllabus of the “Liberal arts” department.

The knowledge of the history of Ukraine has to be the obligatory component of the civic education. The teaching of the history of Ukraine makes this department active participant of the social movement that forms the posttotalitarian state's civil society.

Teaching languages is very perspective for the department. English, French and German are intensively taught here. The traditional thing is to hold students` theoretical and practical conferences that favour the development of different scientific searches among students, make it possible to reveal and encourage perspective young scientists for their further activity. The development of the youth's scientific potential is one of the top priority tasks of the institute teachers and the department particularly, consequently such measures are very important for educational process, and both teachers and students have to take it most seriously.

The department took part in the international theoretical and practical conference “The Actual Problems of Linguistic and Speech Training for Students of Non-philological Professions”. The search for new methods and ways of the successful teaching of Ukrainian language for institute entrants continues. The lasts are going to be the future students and then specialists of Ukraine, they will be tested according to the new introductory examinations, what is an integral and obligatory part of the conversion to the Bologna system.

Today the department of liberal arts is doing its best to provide the educational process with methodological needs.

So the series of humanitarian disciplines mentioned above, that is represented by the department, no doubt takes the special place and is very important for future specialists of the institution of higher education of economical and legal orientation. Because you know, the specialist – it is not just an expert, the A1 specialist, the good workman, but also the member of the team, maybe the future manager, so the person of the high standard of knowledge not only ex professo, but also the nation-wide and universal values.

At the republic contests and conferences our students get places by humanitarian disciplines.
